Your nursery is the first and most important home that your baby will ever have. It sets the tone for a great beginning so that your child can grow up feeling safe, secure and loved.

Every baby needs a place where s/he can lay her head in peace and comfort, surrounded by the colors and shapes that bring joy and serenity. In addition to rearranging your space according to Feng Shui principles of balance and alignment, we will make practical recommendations for additional furniture, plants, lighting, or painting.

Children's rooms serve many purposes. Often, kids do homework on their computers, watch TV, have friends over, and need to get a good night's sleep, all in the same space. American Feng Shui brings organization and clarity to the various functions of your child's environment. The art of placement dictates specific areas for sleeping, studying, and playing, so that your child can receive all the benefits of a balanced environment.

• We will place the crib or bed in the most auspicious position for a feeling of safety and a good night's sleep.

• We will create a color scheme that balances your child's energies. If your child is very active, she will need quieting colors to relax her and calm her down. If she is shy, she will need brighter colors to draw her out of herself and engender self-confidence.

• We will add cures for health and happiness in the appropriate Life Needs areas of the room.

• We will organize the various room functions and clear clutter.

• We will test for electromagnetic fields that may be harmful to your child's health.

Depending upon your child's age, it may be best if your child knows that you are redoing her room but is away during the process. Most children are uncomfortable when you move their stuff around, but love the results once everything is in order again.

For teenagers, it works best if they participate in the de-cluttering and the rearranging of their furniture. They will also need to prioritize their Life Needs so that they can open up to new areas of fulfillment and happiness.

The power of color

In March, 2005, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition brought a team of illustrators from Disney Studios to paint murals on the walls of the children's cancer wing of the University Medical Center in Tucson, Arizona. These happy and colorful walls had an immediate impact on the young patients. The very next day, when the children were allowed back into their rooms, they were tested for their white blood cell count, and every single child had an elevation in their count, indicating increased health for everyone. Such is the powerful impact of color alone.
